This Rosey Banana Peach Jam recipe has a bit of nostalgia for my family because it was my grandma’s recipe. Each summer our family would travel to Pennsylvania and this jam was one of the delicious treats we would enjoy! The mix of peaches, bananas and maraschino cherries give this jam such a wonderfully unique flavor. It’s a bit of Heaven in a jar!
Grandma’s recipe called for mashed peaches. Call me lazy, but I decided to try something different (and easier). Once the ingredients were in the pan, I whipped out my immersion blender. And whatdya’ know, it did the trick!
Grandma’s Rosey Banana Peach Jam
2 cups mashed Bananas (4 large)
6 1/2 cups peeled and diced, ripe Peaches (10 large)
1 cup quartered Maraschino Cherries (1 jar)
4 tablespoons Lemon Juice
8 cups Sugar
7 tablespoons Instant Powdered Pectin (or 2 boxes of Sure-Jell)
- Place fruit in a large pot. Add lemon juice and powdered pectin and mix thoroughly. Using your immersion blender, mash fruit to desired consistency. (I like mine with very little chunks of fruit.)
- Bring to a hard, rolling boil.
- Add your sugar. Once your mixture is at a hard, rolling boil for the second time, boil for 2 minutes.
- Place into jars.
This recipe makes 6 1/2 pint-sized jars of jam!
Canning Jam
Pour jam into clean jars with lids. Place the jars in a large stockpot and fill with water until it’s just enough to cover the lids. Boil for 20 minutes. Carefully remove the jars from the water. As they begin to cool, the lids should seal (you’ll hear a popping sound). If they don’t, place back into the boiling water for another 20 minutes.
When making jam, the trick is to make sure that you wait until it’s at a hard, rolling boil. (This is what the mixture looks like when it’s at a hard, rolling boil.) If you don’t wait until it’s at a hard, rolling boil, trust me, you’ll have syrup on your hands. Of course, syrup isn’t a bad thing at all, but it’s not what we’re going for here!
Don’t let the thought of canning jam intimidate you. If I can do it, anyone can! Not only is this jam handy to have on-hand for your family, it’s also fabulous for gift-giving!
