Last week, one of the recipes I was making called for onion soup mix. I’d made Homemade Taco Seasoning before, so I figured I’d try my hand at Homemade Onion Soup Mix too!
Not only is this easy peasy to make, but it’s also a ton healthier because it doesn’t have the preservatives that are in the store-bought packages.
Homemade Onion Soup Mix
1/2 cup Minced Onions
2 tablespoons Dried Parsley
5 tablespoons Onion Powder
2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
2 teaspoons Celery Seed
2 teaspoons Turmeric
1 teaspoon Pepper
2 teaspoons Salt
Mix all ingredients together and store in an air-tight container.
Note: 5 tablespoons is equivalent to 1 store-bought package.
To make Onion Dip: Mix 5 tablespoons with 1 pint of sour cream.

How do you make this mix into soup? Do you use water, or beef stoick?

To be totally honest, I don’t think never made soup using this mix. I’ve only ever used it for seasoning or dips.
Since it’s a homemade version, why not look at a box in the store and see what that says about making soup with it? Just a thought. Thanks for sharing this Tshanina. I’m looking forward to having this on hand anytime I need it.
Yes, I need to do that Donna!

Are the minced onions dried or regular onions you minced up
They are dried minced onions that you’d find in the spice aisle at the grocery store. (I’m all about easy!)
Would it still be good without the turmeric? I’m allergic
Yes, it will. A few substitutions you could try instead of the turmeric are ginger, cumin or curry powder.
