My nephew, Joel, turned 14 this week. He had told his mom that he wished I could come over for his birthday breakfast. So, she gave me a call and I surprised him!
Now that he’s older, he asks for cash for his birthday gift (which is fine by me). But, I’m always on the hunt for creative ways to give him his cash. :O)
This year I wrapped up a box of cereal (those boxes of cereal I got for $1 paid off). I hid $5 bills in the box, clipped some to the bag, etc and then taped up his envelope with a ton of tape so he’d have a hard time getting in the package.
And if you’re wondering about the reference to Cousin It. A few weeks ago he told me that he wants to name the baby It so that he’ll have a Cousin It. Crazy Kid!
My mom had told me about a discount store where they sell anything and everything for 40-60% off retail price. I was on the hunt for a filing cabinet and some shelves for our garage so we jumped in the car!
Whatdya know, instead of finding what I was searching for, the Lord provided a fabulous deal on a baby bed!
A few weeks ago I was in Target and looked at a bed similar to this one that was $400. It was a beautiful bed, but I told myself there was no way I was going to pay that much money for a bed. (Isn’t it crazy how expensive furniture is?)
This brand new bed was only $150 (with tax) and was already assembled. Plus, the front and back pieces turn into a headboard and footboard for a regular bed. It was a deal too good to pass up!
If you live in the Nashville area, you’ll definitely want to check out this discount store – Head Springs Depot. It’s located in Franklin, a few minutes off of the square. You can check out their deals on Facebook and Craigslist. But, if you see something you want you better snatch it up because their inventory moves fast.
So, I left my fingers do the walking and headed to Craigslist. I found this cabinet for only $40 from a family that was downsizing their home. Yet another fabulous find and a blessing from the Lord! It fit perfectly where I wanted it in our attic.
Do you ever buy anything off of Craigslist?
Last night after Trent got home from work we got to work planting our garden. We decided to go bigger this year so we had to choose a new area because last year’s garden area was too small.
Trent works next door to a man that sold us some plants for dirt cheap. He paid $7 for 5 tomato, 2 cucumber, 6 bell pepper, and 4 zucchini plants. (I also picked up sweet peppers, grape tomatoes and squash yesterday – along with a few flowers that were just too pretty to pass up.) Either Trent doesn’t have much faith in his plants or the garden area we picked because as we started planting he asked if I thought we should get a few more tomato plants. I quickly told him I thought we had enough. Ha!
Of course, I couldn’t help but think of my dad as we were planting our garden. For as long as I remember he planted a garden. When I was a kid and helped in the garden, I didn’t really enjoy it. But, now I’m thankful for the skills he taught me. Memories!
Well, that’s a peek into my week. What have you been up to this week?
