U.S. Coins and Paper MoneyTLC has added yet another tv show to their extreme lineup…Extreme Cheapskates. Have you watched it yet? Out of curiosity Trent and I checked it out and, if you’re like us, you’ll only need to watch the show once.

I was so embarrassed for these people and the lifestyle they choose to live. In my opinion they’ve crossed the line, saving a few dollars a month by not using toilet paper, washing their clothes while they take a shower, flushing the toilet once a week, dumpster diving for food – shall I go on? Now, I’m not saying that it’s bad to use extreme measures to cut corners financially, but I am saying that there’s a point where we can take it too far.

At what point does saving money becoming hoarding?

They showed one man who was too cheap to buy dining room furniture (he used a card table and chairs) but had hundreds of thousands of dollars in bank accounts. There’s no doubt about it, he is a money hoarder!

Matthew 6:19-21 comes to mind – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

There’s no doubt about it, God calls us to be good stewards of our money. He wants us to be resourceful with what He’s given us and save for the future. But the question I have to ask myself is, is my treasure figuring how to put every dime into a bank account or am I using my time and resources for eternal things? Wow, now that’s food for thought (at least for me)!

I have no doubt that God’s ok with us having washing machines and using toilet paper. In fact, I bet if He walked among us He would use these “luxuries” too!

I have been watching this lately. Yet another show that makes our jaws hit the floor. I am cheap. Bottom line. BUT, I am NOT ridiculous. (Though my husband might argue otherwise, ha!) There’s a point at which we have to stay sanitary. That’s the one major thing that I’ve noticed most of those folks aren’t. I can relate with them in the fact that they actually have money and don’t want to waste it on things. But they border on the line of crazy if you know what I mean! :)

I’m cheap too but there’s a point where you can go over the top and they definitely have!
