Years ago we made the decision to cut the cable cord. It was one of the best decisions we’ve made for our budget and we’ve never looked back!

Just because we don’t have cable doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good movie. I’ve put together a list of the best sites to stream free movies online. So grab some popcorn and the family and let me show you where to watch movies now!

My Favorite Way To Watch Free Movies Online

While you can definitely use the streaming services below on your computer, my favorite way is to stream them through my Roku Streaming Stick so that I can watch it on the big screen of our tv. Here are the best streaming options that are currently available. (They are a one time purchase and will last for years to come.)

Roku Streaming Stick | Amazon Fire Stick | Apple TV 4K | Google Chromecast

If you’re new to streaming services below are free apps/channels that you install on your streaming device. Simply search for the channel, install it and start watching.

Where To Watch Ad Free Movies Online

Hoopla Digital

If you have a library card you’ll want to check to see if Hoopla Digital is supported by your local library. You’ll love their huge selection of over 13,500 movies.

Do I have to register to watch free movies? Yes, through your library card.

Favorite Features: They have a great filtering system. Filter by category or user ratings, or choose “children’s only titles”.

Note: Once you’ve borrowed a movie it is available for 72 hours. You have the ability to borrow 10 movies a month.

Kanopy

Yet another fabulous resource if you have a library card. They offer over 30,000 different movies, documentaries and indie films. (Sadly, my local library isn’t supported, but hopefully yours will be!)

Do I have to register to watch free movies? Yes, through your library card.

Favorite Features: The ability to create a watch later list and that the movies have star ratings.

Note: Once you’ve borrowed a movie it is available for 72 hours. You have the ability to borrow 15 movies a month.

PBS

Ok, I admit that the Masterpiece series on PBS aren’t technically movies, but they sure feel like it to me. Keep in mind that these series are only available for a limited time.

Vudu

Vudu has a large selection with over 5,400 movies to choose from. In addition, they also offer a wide variety of tv series ranging from 1950’s – 2010.

While they offer free movies, you can also pay to rent, own and even get early access to movies.

Favorite Features: Their filtering system is awesome. Not only can you choose the genre, year of the movie, studio (MGM, Walt Disney, etc.), star rating (called a Tomatometer), but you can also filter by movie rating (G, PG-13, R, etc.) They also offer parental controls.

IMDB TV

While they don’t offer a ton of filtering options, I like the fact that IMDB TV has “well known” movies. They also offer TV shows and IMDB originals.

Favorite Features: The ability to create a watch list, limited ads, and that the movies have star ratings.

Note: IMDB TV is owned by Amazon. To access IMDB TV through your streaming device you’ll need to log into the Amazon Prime video app. (You don’t need to have an Amazon prime account but if you want to try it out free for 30 days you can do so here.)

Once you’re inside the app scroll down until you see the row of movies titled IMDB TV Free Movies.

Bumblebee

A lot of the movies you’ll find on Bumblebee aren’t as “well known” as they are on some of the other options I’ve shared here. And while you can’t filter the movies, I do like that the movies are broken up into genres.

In addition to the free movies they also offer news clips, comedy, lifestyle and gaming “shows.”
