Let’s face it, we all want Thanksgiving to be perfect. But what if Thanksgiving Day doesn’t turn out perfectly? I’m sharing one of my recent flops that may make you feel just a tad better.

Let's face it, we all want Thanksgiving to be perfect. But what if Thanksgiving Day doesn't turn out perfectly? I'm sharing one of my Thanksgiving flops.A few days ago I shared my not so perfect Turkey Bread recipe with you. I told you that the bread was the third attempt at the project, and that there was a crazy story behind the second attempt. Well, what better time to share that crazy story than today!

My first attempt at making my bread flopped, and I was excited to try again. I knew what I needed to change and was a girl on a mission.

After carefully crafting the Turkey Bread and topping it with nuts in just the precise spots, I placed it in the oven to bake. When I pulled my Turkey out of the oven it was pretty close to perfection (or as close as I was going to get). I was pretty stoked.

This Turkey Bread was going to be the perfect blog post. It would be a hit on Pinterest and families would have a blast creating their very own Turkey Bread together. Not only that but it would be great traffic for my blog. Yes, that’s exactly what I thought to myself as it was cooling. (Oh, the life of a blogger. HA!)

Dalton’s naptime ended shortly after I took the bread out of the oven so I didn’t get to take pictures of my bread. But I was okay with that because I could take the pictures during the next day’s naptime when there was good lighting.

The next morning when I checked on my Turkey I was absolutely devastated. All of the nuts were gone from my Turkey. Not just one nut…all of them! Was this a joke? Surely Trent hadn’t eaten the nuts off of the top. I mean, he knew the bread was for a blog post. He also knew how excited I was to my Turkey with you guys.

Of course it wasn’t him, but while we were discussing what happened we realized who the culprit was. No, it wasn’t Dalton. It had to have been a mouse! Not only was I appalled that a mouse was on my kitchen counter, but I was infuriated. I had spent all that time crafting and taking pictures for nothing. Nothing!

Let's face it, we all want Thanksgiving to be perfect. But what if Thanksgiving Day doesn't turn out perfectly? I'm sharing one of my Thanksgiving flops.

You saw that my third Turkey wasn’t perfect, but I still wanted to share it with you. Why? Because life isn’t perfect and doesn’t always go as planned. Even though the mouse may have spoiled the perfect Turkey for my blog post, I don’t want to forget the fun I had making that turkey…well, those turkeys, really!

The experience with my Turkey Breads made me think of Thanksgiving (and even Christmas) get-togethers. We carefully choose the items on our menu and spend hours, sometimes days, crafting the mouth-watering desserts and yummy creations that will grace our table. We’ve put all that time and effort into this one meal and expect it to be perfect…it is Thanksgiving after all!

But what happens when the rolls or the pies crusts turn out a little too brown, the turkey isn’t quite done when we planned for it to be, or grandma and grandpa don’t show up on time and the food is getting cold? If you’re like I was with my Turkey Bread you get upset.

Can I encourage you not to base the perfection of your Thanksgiving Day around a meal. That ginormous meal that we’re going to eat in a few days is only going to last a short while. Whether the green bean casserole is a bit overcooked or you totally forget to get a can of your child’s favorite, cranberry sauce, the meal is still going to be a success. More than likely everyone’s going to push back from the table with a belly full of wonderful food (and wish they hadn’t eaten so much).

Let's face it, we all want Thanksgiving to be perfect. But what if Thanksgiving Day doesn't turn out perfectly? I'm sharing one of my Thanksgiving flops.

What will make the day perfect? Hearing the laughter of friends and family as they hang out, reminisce and tell funny stories, watching your nieces and nephews learn a new game and ask to play it over and over again, or seeing your mom’s face light up as she and her grandchild have a special moment together.

Thanksgiving is not about food (although it’s fabulous to enjoy). Thanksgiving is about being together and spending quality time with those that you love. Cherish the moments you have with the ones you love!

(This post is written in memory of my precious dad who is now in Heaven. He absolutely loved Thanksgiving. Oh how we all miss him!)
