At the beginning of June we planted our very first garden. Well, maybe that’s an overstatement because we planted four tomato plants and one bell pepper plant.

I’m happy to report that our garden is doing quite well! Three of the plants have taken off, and I can’t believe how tall they are. And the pepper plant, well, I think the tomatoes are overpowering it. It’s had a few buds on it but there aren’t any peppers yet! There’s still time!

We had a garden growing up but I don’t remember the plants getting this tall. (Maybe it was that magic fertilizer that Trent’s been putting on them.) I told Trent that if we plant a garden next year we need to invest in tomato cages! It’d be a lot less hassle than tying up the plants.

Since this was our first garden, the location was trial and error. When we planted, we banked on a couple plants not doing well. This plant gets the least sun so that’s why it hasn’t done vert well – it actually looks punier in real life than the picture lets on.

Trent tried to tell me that it wouldn’t do well in that area but being the stubborn girl that I am, I wanted to put it there anyway. Sometimes I have to learn things the hard way. So Trent, if you’re reading this, you were right and I was wrong. :O) (Hey, I’m not too proud to admit when I’m wrong!) Now we know not to plant something that likes full sun in that area next year. Trial and error, right?

It won’t be long until these puppies are ready to pick. Honestly, I can’t believe how many tomatoes this one plant has on it. There’s at least six on one plant. I have a feeling that I need to come up with a few recipes that use tomatoes. If you have any suggestions, please share!

Watching our garden grow has really been a fun experience. I’ve caught myself checking out the plants to see the progress.

Do you have a garden? What did you plant in it?
