On Saturday Trent and I were able to take part in a fishing event for underprivileged kids. My brother-in-law works with the families of inmates and for the past few years they’ve had a fishing event for the kids. TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency) provided a grant for supplies and Bass Pro Shops even sent over some goodies for the kids!
We headed to this awesome private pond! God provided beautiful weather for us and I’m so thankful for that!
It was so neat to watch the volunteers be the hands and feet of Jesus to these hurting kids.
There were plenty of fish to be caught and it was so sweet to see their faces light up as they caught their fish, many for the first time in their lives!
I even brought my oldest nephew, Jacob, along. He’s growing into such a wonderful young man with a big heart! This was his fishing partner for the day!
This little one had more energy than any other child I’ve ever met. One minute he was here and then another minute he was there. This picture is of them playing tag, and he was loving every minute of it! Oh what an impact this volunteer made on this child’s life – he truly poured himself into this kid for the day!
When you’re hanging out with those that are less fortunate it’s easy for all of your “problems” to fade away. Oh how much we truly have – sometimes we just need to open our eyes and look around at all that we’ve been blessed with (or maybe that’s just me).
Many of these volunteers were fisherman. They gave up their weekend to spend time with these kids. And, even though there were times when the kids weren’t patient enough to wait on the fish, the volunteers were oh so patient with them!
Isn’t it neat how God can use our talents to serve others. If you don’t enjoy the area that you’re serving in, maybe you need to find another place to serve!
Fishing is one of Trent’s favorite past times and it’s fun to watch him use his gift to serve our Lord! I’m so proud of him for putting the fishing portion of this event together. It was a lot of work, and a lot of lives were changed!
