Oh To Be A Kid Again - Even as adults, we can still learn life lessons from children in our lives, as I did recently!

So that title may be stretching it a bit. Like most of you, I wouldn’t rewind the clock and go through my adolescent or teen years again. I think I’ll stay right where I’m at and keep moving forward.

As I’ve watched kids over the last few days, I’ve been reminded of a valuable lesson. And though it’s not new, it’s definitely something I needed to be reminded of.

I’ve told you before about Jayden, the little neighbor boy that I’ve been taking to church. Well, he’s become quite attached to me and Trent and comes over almost every day to visit and hang out. (He told me that when school was out he’ll be able to come over and visit more. Too cute!)

We were hanging out a few days ago when my brother-in-law and his family stopped by to drop something off. It was their first time to meet Jayden. After introductions were made it was as if the kids had known each other their whole lives. They started playing tag and didn’t stop until it was time to go home.

My sister and her family were here over the past few days. Little Jayden jumped right in with my nephews and had a ball playing with them. In fact, last night I played hide and go seek with them for a couple hours. It was oh so fun and I’m still recovering!

Why can’t adults get along like kids? Why do we have to size someone up before we can be their friend, or even talk to them? Why do they have to look or be a certain way? Why do they have to hang out with certain people or _______ (insert a number of different things)?

This was a great reminder for me. And though it may seem like a small lesson, it’s really a rather large and valuable lesson. I may not want to rewind the clock and go back to being a kid again, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be reminded of valuable life lessons from the kids around me.

Have your kids taught you any lessons lately?
