“When I grow up I want to be just like _______.”
Even as young children we’re encouraged to be someone else. But what would happen if we learned that the best person to be is ourself?
In the movie Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Lucy travels through Narnia, and finds The Book of Incantations. Her favorite incantation transforms her into the person she’s always wanted to be, her sister Susan.
The first time time she transforms into Susan she finds it intriguing and calls herself “beautiful.” But when she tries it the second time, she quickly realizes what life would be like without her. Aslan reminds her that she doesn’t need to wish her life away, but be exactly who she was created to be.
In her book, Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, Crystal Paine says, “When we are focused on what we cannot change, we cannot make the most out of who we are and what we have to offer.” Crystal is absolutely right. When we change our focus from all of the things we see wrong with ourself and focus on the positive, our attitude and outlook on life will also change.
Instead of wishing you could be someone else, or had their life, why not focus on yourself and being the best version of you!
