To celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary, Trent and I enjoyed a long weekend away. Other than our Arkansas road trips for Trent’s work, it’s been a while since we’ve taken a vacation. So, as you can imagine, I was super pumped when Trent brought up the idea!
My tour guide, Trent, booked us a cabin at Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, TN! Isn’t the view beautiful?
Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum
Our first outing of the weekend was to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. Along with taking a ride on the train, we meandered around the train yard and checked out the trains! It was pretty neat seeing a bit of history. I only wish the train ride had been longer!
Neither of us had been to Ruby Falls before so we added this to our list of outings.
It was neat hearing the story of how Leo Lambert discovered the falls and seeing things as he did as we hiked to the falls. The donkey and fish in the pictures above were part of his diary entries of things he saw when he searched the caves. They told us that they have lantern tours…but I’m definitely out on that. I can’t imagine how dark the caves would be without lighting.
We enjoyed the tour but felt that it was a bit rushed. There was definitely pressure to keep up with the group and we would have liked it if the hike had been a bit more leisurely. I will say that the falls were very neat…and pictures really don’t do it justice!
It had been years since we’d been to the Tennessee Aquarium so that was also one of our stops. We went for half a day but definitely could have stayed the entire day. Trent enjoyed reading about the animals/places they were from while I enjoyed watching them! Along with fish, there were penguins, otters, butterflies, and so much more! This is definitely an attraction that is fun for the entire family.
Our Dinner’s Out
Trent’s favorite part about vacation is eating out! He scoped out some yummy restaurants in the area for us to try:
Taco Mamacita – We recommend the Caribbean Jerk, Taco Royale and Mango Salsa!
Canyon Grill – Although the dress was casual, this was more of an upscale price restaurant. (Definitely a treat for us!) We both give a thumbs up for their steak and chicken!
Big River Grille – Trent really loved their Lobster Bisque and I enjoyed the Blackened Mahi Sandwich.
We also watched a few movies. All Is Lost was definitely a dud, but we highly recommend Captain Phillips and Gifted Hands!
Along with our outings, we had plenty of time to relax, sit in the hot tub and enjoy the beautiful view! Sunday was wonderful because we relaxed all day and only went out to get supper! (Definitely my kind of day!)
It was a wonderful weekend spent with the precious man that I love, and I’m so thankful for our time away!
