You’ll probably be shocked to know that much of my writing here at Thrifty T’s Treasures is just as much for me as it is for you! Sometimes it’s weird how God can speak to me through my own writing.
Last week in my Battling Insecurity post I encouraged us to begin taking our thoughts captive and compare them to what Christ has to say about us! I said it’s not a one and done thing but a daily choice that we must make. And, whatdya know, just a few days later I had to practice what I preached in a big way! Here’s how the story unfolds.
I’m a web designer (I build websites). I absolutely love what I do. Many times web design gets confused with graphic design. While I have friends that can do both, graphic design isn’t my sweet spot. I can dabble around with it but it’s not what I’m passionate about.
Last week I’d been working on a website for a client and my friend was going to do the graphics for the site. I’d almost completed the site and was waiting for the graphics before I could do a few more tweaks. When the graphics were loaded to the site I was just blown away. They were amazing and absolutely made the site pop. I was pumped at how the final product turned out!
Then that little thing called insecurity crept into my head. I started telling myself that I should be able to do graphics for my sites, I’m not good enough, I’m not talented, and so much more! Surely you know what I’m talking about because we’ve all been there. It was a mini pity party.
Then I remembered what we’d talked about just a few days earlier. I remembered that I needed to take my thought captive. And so I did!
God doesn’t think that I’m not talented. In fact, He created each of us with different talents so we can compliment each other. I reminded myself that while I may not be as gifted in the graphic design department as my comrade, I have talents in other areas. And, you know what? While I’d love to be gifted in the graphic design area, reminding myself that I can create websites was enough for me. God gave me this talent and I’m going to use it to help others shine. My friend and I can work together and compliment each other.
It may not sound like a big deal to you, but it was a big deal for me. So, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! ;o)
Have you taken your thoughts captive over the past few days? If you’re brave enough, share them in the comments. You just might encourage someone else!
