I've pulled together a list of my favorite ways to save when shopping. No matter what you're shopping for, there's a tip for you. Number 2 is my favorite!

Shopping is part of our everyday life. Some of us absolutely love shopping while others of us dread it with a passion. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, why not save a bit of your hard earned money by using these tips that will help you save when shopping.

1. Shop Around/Price Compare

Trent is the master at shopping around and price comparing. He’s saved us a ton on appliances and so much more by doing a bit of investigating before we buy!

We recently bought a new garage door. He figured out which door he wanted and then shopped around to find the best deal. Doing this leg work saved us quite a bit of money, and we didn’t have to spend a ton of money on gas because he did it from the comfort of home!

2. Use Coupons

Using coupons is probably one of my favorite ways to save when shopping. Whether you’re saving $.50 at the grocery store or 40% off your favorite retailer, coupon savings adds up!

I’ve recently learned about Groupon Coupons. They currently offer over 70,000 free coupons and you can use them when shopping (both online and in-store) at more than 8,600 retailers. (eBay, Walgreens and JC Penney are a few of their top retailers.) Plus, they’re adding new stores and coupons every day, so you’ll want to check back if you don’t find a coupon you love right away!

Groupon Coupons is yet another fabulous way to save at Groupon! (If you’re like me, you’re already using Groupon for their fabulous deals and to save at the grocery store through Snap by Groupon. Why not use their coupons too!?!)

Whether you’re printing and clipping or using an app, with just a few keystrokes you can save yourself quite a bit using coupons!

3. Wait 24 Hours

Have you ever gotten home from shopping with an item and asked yourself why in the world you even bought it? My friend, that is called an impulse buy. You’re not alone, because we’ve all made this kind of purchase.

If you see something that you love at the store, especially a pricey item, why not make sure you really need the item. Simply wait 24 hours before making the purchase. If, after 24 hours, it’s still something you want, then go for it!

4. Pay with Cash

I don’t know about you, but I’m very protective of the cash in my wallet. I definitely think twice about what I’m going to spend it on. I mean, who wants to break a $20 bill for a $1 item – not this girl!

Next time you head out shopping, take cash. It just might change the way you shop and what you buy.

Saving up to pay cash for large purchases is yet another way that you can save. Much like waiting 24 hours, you may realize how much work it takes to save up for that item and decide to go with something a bit cheaper. (Not to mention the fact that it’ll make you appreciate that item even more since you worked so hard for it!)

Oh the power of paying with cash!

5. Stock Up When It’s On Sale

This method works great at the grocery store, and I use it quite often.

When an item that you regularly buy goes on sale, go ahead and get 3-4 so that you won’t need to buy it again until the next sale cycle.

Save even more and get rock bottom prices when you pair a coupon with a sale!

6. Buy Used

There are some items that have to be purchased new, and some that don’t. If you’re used to buying everything new, you’d be amazed at how much you can save by buying used. Our favorite places to look for used items are Craigslist and Ebay (don’t forget to look for Groupon Coupons for eBay).

You might also find some goodies on Freecycle!
