How A Brief Moment Changed My Day

I'm sharing how a brief moment changed my day. A moment that made me cling tighter to my husband and say a prayer of thanks!

It was an ordinary day. Trent and I had just finished dinner and headed to Walmart to pick up a few items for a project he was working on.

As I waited for him to get out of the car I noticed a man pushing someone in a wheelchair. They were in the next aisle over and, although it was dark and they weren’t very close, I could tell that the person in the wheelchair was almost a lifeless form. It appeared to be a female (possibly his wife, I thought).

At that moment my heart hurt for them – it wasn’t an ordinary hurt. Although I have no idea of their circumstances, I imagined how much that man must have loved that woman to take her to the store. Just getting her in and out of the car had to be a lot of work!

Normally I would feel sorry for them but at this moment I was saddened because of all that I have and all that I take for-granted! That could be me in that wheelchair and Trent pushing me along. Instead, we had just enjoyed dinner together and were headed into the store – walking.

There are times when I think that my problems are the biggest in the world. I’m sure there are tons of people that would gladly trade shoes with me if even for a day. If I shared my “problems” with them they’d probably laugh in comparison to theirs.

Isn’t it amazing how a brief moment can change our thinking? With tears streaming down my face I said a quick prayer of blessing over this couple.

As Trent and I walked into the store I couldn’t help but cling a bit tighter when he held my hand and say a prayer of thanks to the Lord for all that He’s blessed us with!

No matter what you’re going through in this life, it could be a lot worse!

Have you ever had an a-ha moment like the one I described above?

Thank you for sharing your heart, Tshanina. Whenever I see a spouse acting as caregiver, it always causes me to remember when I had that honor and privilege and to look at them realizing how much they are committed to their marriage and how much love they have for their husband/wife.

I have these moments often, but they are usually about my children. Whenever I am having a difficult day or week with them, I will see a mother with a handicapped child or I will hear about a child with cancer, etc. it helps me to appreciate my healthy, active children.

I love how God gives us these reminders of how truly blessed we are!

      Thanks for sharing Brenda!
